Renegades Safe House

My mind initially drew a blank as to what I was going to do with my Complex sets. I suppose it can be similar to the "blank canvas" or the "blank page". Well, maybe not exactly, but a little similar. What sort of scene can I set up within the blank Complex walls?

I thought of the various bits of gear and "stuff" that I have stored away and considered the bunks and lockers from various PTE sets. Well... what's next?

My current favorite sub-set of figures are the core team members of the GI Joe Renegades series. Much of the concept of that too-brief series drives my own imaginary GI Joe world.

Hey, how about a safe house for the team?

The idea is that the team needs a place to rest and catch their breath during their pursuit of the truth of Cobra's involvement, while also fleeing Cobra Security and the US military.
I probably went a little nuts as far as adding details and stuff to the scene. One slick aspect of the Complex walls are the strategically placed holes in the walls. The holes are compatible with the pegs commonly used on backpacks and accessories of GI Joe and other figure lines. So various jet-packs, backpacks, and other bits adorn the walls.
Duke, Scarlett, and Roadblock are discussing their next step while Ripcord and Tunnel Rat listen in. Snake Eyes, always the silent observer, has his own mysterious thoughts about the future.
Down on the floor is a big chunk of "something" that came with one of the Retaliation Roadblock figures. It's some sort of figure deployment gear that can attach to the modern Tomahawk. I randomly kept it, not being very impressed with it and I'm glad that I did. It makes for an interesting bit of something sitting on the floor.
I think that computer terminal pedestal comes from a Star Wars droid figure, possibly that white droid from Jabba's palace?
Tunnel Rat fiddles with the control unit of a remote robot. Perhaps a modern mini PAC-RAT? I'm thinking Tunnel Rat has found a new toy to keep.
You can't ever go wrong in adding the most awesome accessory ever made by Hasbro. That briefcase full of cash is just amazing! I've got two from Hasbro and two more from FSS figures from the Club. I've heard that they command a pretty nice bit of coin on the secondary market.
Snake Eyes just wants to play a game of catch. If I were him, I'd pick Roadblock to be on my team. Also, take note of the crates that he's sitting on. They're from the Indiana Jones line of figures. I'm pretty sure I stuffed them full of pennies to give them some weight when setting them up.
A closer look at the lockers. Those big cumbersome backpacks plugged right into the floors of the Complex. Setting them at an angle adds a little something to them just laying on the floor. A bit of randomness maybe?
A wider shot of the lockers and surrounding area. The crate is stuffed with so many tools, it would actually be impossible to close. That little cart that Hasbro created is another pretty awesome bit of random gear. It originally came with one of the DVD/Figure sets from several years ago. There are slots for the containers of the "elements" needed to power the MASS device. It's still pretty cool to use just as a transport cart.
Ripcord is down there on the bottom bunk, perhaps recently rescued from Cobra's clutches and still needing some rest. He's twisted a bit oddly, but it was the best I could do. I seriously doubt that he'd crawl into a bunk still wearing a bulky holster on his hip.
Another high overhead shot, trying to capture all of the bits that I added to the scene. One small detail that I left out. What are they going to eat? I really need to have some 1/18th scale food stuff for my figures.
Let's see... there's a MARS trooper helmet, a Steel Brigade helmet, a Cobra trooper helmet. Is that CoCo's helmet also in there?
The laptops are pretty amazing as well. They are especially nice when Hasbro added images to the screens. Many of the laptops that came with various RoC figures had the blank plastic screens. I wound up creating mini images and printing them out on mailing labels, trimming them down, and enhancing the screens. Some of the images that I used were from actual programs, but there's no way to see the details at this small scale.
What's that in the corner? Besides being one of those spring-loaded missile launchers from a RoC figure, it's just meant to be a bit of background dressing. Years ago, I nearly threw away all of those silly launchers. Luckily, I was directed to a link on JoeCustoms.com about someone using them as background dressing. Excellent idea! They're great as bits of extra stuff that can be laying around in a diorama.
I'm sure this briefcase full of cash will prove to be beneficial during the team's travels. See that yellow-winged thing with the handles on the wall? It came with a young Anakin Skywalker figure. I bought the figure primarily for that weird satellite thing. I've still got the Anakin figure somewhere, he still works as a random kid in background shots.
Here's the overhead shot of the entire scene. I started this late in the evening one night. I was up for hours, digging out stuff to add, posing and re-posing. Loads of fun! So what's next for my Complex set? I'll clear this set out and come up with some other scene at some point.

Maybe if I had a few more bunks and lockers... Perhaps some sort of barracks?
Stay tuned!
