The Women of GI Joe

I imagine ever since Scarlett showed up way back in 1982, I've always had a fascination with the women of GI Joe. There's been only a few back in the original run - Scarlett, Cover Girl, Lady Jaye, Jinx.

I've never had a problem with adding additional female troops to the team and have always looked out for other female figures that would be fairly compatible with the various GI Joe female bodies.

Most of the following figures are customs, some I'm happy with, some not so much. Let's get started with perhaps the best figure from the Rise of Cobra series.

Helix. What else is there to say? Helix has an excellent sculpt on every bit of her body. I'm going to sound like a sexist pig, but I'm trying to discuss the aesthetics of the figure design and not just the curvy female body. Anyway...
Helix is just an excellent figure. The body was so well done, I bought several more to use as custom bases. Too bad Hasbro hasn't gone back and used this mold again. Legal issues tied to the first movie? If so, that sucks.

The first figure of Scarlett for the 25th Anniversary series. Not a bad figures, but the construction also shows how much improvement has gone on over the past several years.
The most excellent Bombstrike figure from the recent FSS 3.0 series from the GI Joe Collector's Club. They kicked butt with this figure. A varied group of parts and a new head sculpt makes Bombstrike the envy of all of those who didn't get on board for FSS 3.0. I have no idea what the figure is worth on the secondary market; I think prices are steadily climbing upward.
Retaliation Lady Jaye with a modified Night Fox vest. Works pretty well. I bought quite a few of these figures, primarily through the $5.00 blow out at 5 Below. Mostly for the excellent weapon load out.
Moving over to the Rise of Cobra figures, this is Cover Girl's head on the Reactive Armor Scarlett body. Not a bad combo, but poor Cover Girl got a raw deal on that head sculpt. She looks very angry.
Marvel Universe Kitty Pride on a Lady Jaye body. Yeah! Cleavage! Decent enough combo, but not 100%. Skin tones are off.
This is Bulma from the live action Dragon Ball Z movie. Her original body is an absolute horror in terms of articulation. The head sculpt works very nicely on an extra Helix body.
An extra Helix head on a Reactive Armor Scarlett body with some Black Widow bits of gear. Kinda' cool.
This is a Star Wars female head on a Reactive Armor Scarlett body. I think this is the female member of Joker Squad. Decent, not 100% pleased.
Retaliation Jaye on older Jaye body. Works well for an off duty look.
Marion Ravenwood head sculpt on an older Lady Jaye body. Bad head sculpt for Marion. Shame.
This is the recent Scarlet Witch head sculpt on a RoC Scarlett body. Not bad. Decent skin tone match.
Cheetarah? Sure, why not? I saw a similar custom using the Cheetarah head and I found the figure and gave it a try. I had to trim out part of the hair along the back but she looks pretty good on a Helix body. How do I justify this weird alien cat chick on my Joe team? Long story, one that I'll get into one day. The reason has to do with why I can use Hellboy and Bossk with my Joes.
One of the more recent versions of the Black Widow figure. Great articulation and a decent head sculpt. Looks most like Scarlet Johansson over other figures. Yeah, the Black Widow can definitely work in the Joe universe, even without her super powered male companions.
A RoC Scarlett head sculpt on a Ret Lady Jaye body. Not a pretty head sculpt. The combo doesn't look too bad, but still not great.
Dialtone from a RoC multi-pack? I think that's who this figure was marketed as. Decent figure and the only reuse of the Helix head that I'm aware of.
The best Lady Jaye head sculpt on the recent 50th Lady Jaye body. In terms of the comic/cartoon versions of Lady Jaye, she's my default version.
Original Lady Jaye on Ret Lady Jaye body. Not bad, it works.
This is another Star Wars character on RoC Cover Girl's body. Works better now. Great skin tone match. She is my Dial-Tone now. Don't have any other version of the male Dial-Tone, so why not?
Another version of Black Widow head sculpt on a Cover Girl body. Works well together.
Here's another Black Widow head sculpt on the Resolute Scarlett body. That original Resolute head sculpt was decent, but it was also HUGE in comparison. This is much better and she's now my default Scarlett. Hasbro finally makes a great Scarlett head sculpt and it belongs to the Black Widow.
Jinx in her white training uniform. She was an SDCC exclusive from a few years ago. Probably the only SDCC exclusives I've ever bought. Good figure!
Just for kicks, I tried Jinx' head on the Resolute Scarlett body. Looks pretty damn cool. I wish Hasbro would go back to this body sculpt. Excellent figure.
And I wrap up with the better of the RoC Scarlett head sculpts on another Lady Jaye body. This head was on the Resolute body for a while until that Black Widow figure came along.

So that's about it for my mostly custom Ladies of GI Joe collection. Needs work, but I'm pleased with nearly all of them!
